After a long day of moving furniture and boxes with several of our amazing friends, Alex and I decided to celebrate our last day of our undergraduate careers, our student jobs, and our home in Greenville, NC by taking everyone to Basil's, our local pizzeria. Dinner was great -- we celebrated with the best friends a couple could have. We even got our favorite waitress, Kathy!

I had this gut feeling that something special was going to happen on our last day. For months, I talked to my sorority sisters, Kylen and Monica, about the ring and getting engaged. Everyone always asked when Alex was going to propose (since we've been dating for over seven and a half years). We wanted to follow in Alex's parents' footsteps after we heard that they dated for seven years before they got engaged.

Well, that night was truly special. Our good friend, Sandy, tapped on the side of a glass with a spoon to get everyone's attention. Leading up to that point, I knew Alex was going to do something that he was nervous about because he does this thing to "relieve tension in his face/forehead" by rubbing them with his hands. He let out several deep breathes and began his speech by letting everyone at our dinner table know how special they were to him. He mentioned how he was so happy to finally find friends and a job where he could be himself. It made the last year for him so amazing. He then went on to mention how I was so important to him; that I was the reason why he succeeded in school and why he is the person he is today.

Being the observant person that I am, I looked at Monica and Kylen with a smile on my face as we telepathically communicated to each other what was just happening. Alex asked me to stand up, and he took my hand (the wrong one at first) and held it while telling me how I mean the world to him and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was so overwhelmed with what was happening that I was crying and whimpering like a baby. After whispering to Alex that he had the wrong hand, he switched hands and got down on one knee. He pulled out the silver box, which held the ring -- my ring -- for several months. Strangely, every time I was doing laundry or looking for ink, I found the box in all the hiding places. I wasn't even trying to search for it!  Although tempted, I never peeked!

Alex thought about proposing several times before, but the moment wasn't right. But on July 27th, 2012, the moment was perfect. Our friends, and even some family, were present. The proposal marked the end of some things, but it also marked new beginnings. Of course, I said "YES!" through my tears and we kissed and hugged as our friends cheered us on.

Finally, after seven years, seven months, and two weeks, I am proud to say that Alex Michael Villasenor is now my fiance!

A special thanks to all of my wonderful friends who were present to see this special moment - Luke, Jake, Mikayla, Sandy, Monica, Kylen, DJ, Alex J, and Nieves!

And, here's the proposal video (thanks to Kylen!):
